"Uhgggghhhhh I don't wanna."

(3 min. read)

It's not easy to find the time for exercise, but it's one of the most important investments in your brain and body! …But sometimes it seems like a DAUNTING task.

So hop on the train even though you might not feel ready, the journey is the way! Here are 12 ways to trick your brain into working out - even when you’re lackin motivation!

1. Working out in a mirror to not feel so alone.

This may seem like a silly suggestion but the simple act of seeing another moving body, even though it is only your reflection, gets the brain moving and the body motivated. We are social creatures and the perceived presence of another being may be just what you need to get going. BONUS: You’ll also get a better view of your form and alignment!

2. Putting on a ridiculous fun sexy outfit on days when you feel questionable about your body.

Fake it til you make it. Act as if. Dress for who you want to be. There are endless sayings that suggest our mere intention can shift our attitude and therefore our day. So put on an outfit that suggests a certain mood and rise up to meet it! Give it a try, and get crazy.

3. Playing old favorite music (especially if it’s stuff you loved as a teen).

Music has the power to transport us to times and places we may have even forgotten existed. Once we hear the tune, we are immediately transported, body, mind, and spirit to that moment. You may receive a burst of energy and enthusiasm you didn’t know existed! The excitement and energy of that moment returns as if no time at all has passed. Sing along! The miracle of the present moment exists within the music!

4. Having an accountability coach, and sending them “proof of the workout” pics and check ins.

We are creatures of habit, and in order to break ourselves out and into new routines often requires a commitment outside of ourselves. Working with a coach or trainer can keep you motivated and focused on achieving your goals. Telling somebody (wether you pay them or not) “HEY I DID IT” is often enough to make you want to do it again tomorrow.

5. Splitting your personality and screaming at yourself like a coach during the hard stuff.

We are ultimately our own best friend or worst enemy. So why not put on the pants of someone who can help you through it. Silence the voice of the negative Nancy and be the coach you really need, say things to yourself like "Lets GO! PUSH HARDER! 3 MORE REPS EVEN IF YOU'RE TIRED" even if it’s just inside your head!

6. Making it into a long distance date over video chat -

Submitted by @saraclairegoldman; The perks of technology is instant, in the, moment connection, even if only through the web. Stay motivated and come together with a friend through a video call, where you can suffer with a buddy!

7. Planning out a juicy reward-

Submitted by @xandradawn A sexy dinner date, a ticket to that show you’ve been wanting to attend, a new outfit from your favorite brand. Work yourself up towards a reward that will keep you focused and desiring to get to the next step.

8. Tell myself I’ll have an orgasm after as a lil treat :)

Submitted by @cuckooforcoco Just like above, the juiciest reward might just be that of self pleasure. And we know it’s not just about the result, make a plan to uh, check in with yourself :) , have a cozy bath, light some candles and incense, take some deep breaths with good music and really get in the mood. You are worthy and deserving!!

9. Create a Sacred Space for your training.

Having a spot that you return to everyday for your practice facilitates the mindset shift needed to motivate you and return back to your body. Make it a space strictly for your practice, nothing else!!  Watch the energy and your routine transform!

10. Working out with a lesson plan-

pre plan your exercises/reps and have them on a sheet nearby. The lesson plan serves as a guide to help you avoid any excess mind chatter and wondering and allows you to enter a flow state. You can keep yourself organized and on track without having to plan or predict in the moment. Plan for Success and you will get there!

11. Get a QUALITY set of bluetooth headphones-

Having good music that won’t fall out of your ears makes a huge difference. My personal favorites are Power Beats Pro

12 . Ditch the phone- Use an egg timer and a notebook instead of a timer app/notes app. Your phone has too many distractions on it! Keep it in a different room for the duration of your workout and see your focus sharpen!

We're busy. We have a lot to do, places to go, people to see. Our brains are constantly being bombarded with too much information and not enough time. If you want your brain to work out regularly then it needs some tricks up its sleeve to work out without even realizing it's happening! Use these tips and tricks to get and stay motivated! Let me know how it goes! My DMs are always open @abcsoffitness on Instagram.
